While there are plenty of hiking trails and outdoor spots in the UAE, I'm sure there will come a time when you're looking for some adventure outside the UAE. And with that, I would like to share with you 3 easy hiking trails near UAE that can be done on a short weekend!
The list below is based on my experience and if you want to know more about the trail that interests you, check out my articles for detailed information.
1. Jebel Shams, Oman
While this can be done on a day hike, I will not recommend it a day hike as mentioned in my article. Among the three on the list, this is probably the most challenging. But with proper preparation, the mountain itself will reward you with a beautiful view of the gorge and the canyon. It is dubbed as the Grand Canyon of the Middle East and reaching the summit will tell you why once you see it with your own eyes!

2. Gergeti Glacier (Mt. Kazbek) via Gergeti Trinity Church, Georgia
Located in our neighboring country, Georgia, you must have been to the Gergeti Trinity Church in Kazbegi but did you know that thereβs an amazing landscape when you go higher?
Although another is quite long, this is possible on a day hike as long as you start early! Not only you get the picturesque view of Gergeti Trinity Church from above you will also get to see the Gergeti Glacier and the summit of Mt. Kazbek much closer!

3. Hong Kong Trail, Hong Kong
I know, I know... Hong Kong is quite far compared to Oman and Georgia, but trust me, this is worth it! Hong Kongβs outdoor scene is so relaxing and it is the perfect place to indulge with your dumpling cravings too! Also, Cathay's Pacific flight timings are so convenient!
If you think the first two trails are long enough for your hiking appetite, this is probably the longest!
BUT, this trail is unique in a way that the option is in your hands. Technically, it is a 50-km trail across Hong Kong Island but the trail is divided into 8 sections and you can do one section at a time! You can even do the first section at the famous Victoria Peak! What a good way to burn the calories from eating all the dumplings right?
Does the thrill of the 50-km long Hong Kong Trail excite you? You can do the whole trail or section by section and it's totally doable! If you need a hiking guide per section, check out my articles and choose which section interests you!
- Hong Kong Trail Overview
- The Peak to Pok Fu Lam Reservoir Road - Section 1
- Pok Fu Lam Reservoir Road to Peel Rise - Section 2
- Peel Rise to Wan Chai Gap Road - Section 3
- Wan Chai Gap Road to Won Nai Chung Road - Section 4
- Won Nai Chung Road to Tai Fung Au/Mount Parker Road - Section 5
- Tai Fung Au/Mount Parker Road to Tai Tam Road - Section 6
P.S. All trails mentioned above are quite long with some challenging sections but there are no technical sections (use of ropes, ladder bridges, or any sort). However, you can do these hikes per section or you can backtrack the trail at any point in time. These hikes are beginner-friendly, child-friendly, and even pet-friendly too especially the Hong Kong Trail! You can hike any of these trails without a guide but of course, with proper research and preparation.Β Β
